A whole new ballgame

This blueprint re-imagines English football by blending the financial solidarity of the "shared-pot" era with a modern, streamlined 18-team top flight. It restores the principle that the top division is merely the "first among equals," ensuring the survival and competitiveness of the entire 84-club pyramid.

## 1. League Structure: The "Power Eight-Four"

The pyramid is reduced to **84 professional clubs** to prioritize quality and reduce fixture congestion, particularly for top-tier clubs playing in Europe.

 * **Division 1:** 18 Teams (34 matches)

 * **Division 2:** 20 Teams (38 matches)

 * **Division 3:** 22 Teams (42 matches)

 * **Division 4:** 24 Teams (46 matches)

## 2. Revenue Distribution: The "Socialist Split"

Following the pre-1992 philosophy, all TV and central commercial income is pooled into a single "League Fund" and distributed by fixed percentage across the divisions, regardless of which teams are shown on screen.

### Central Fund Distribution

| Tier | Percentage Share | Allocation Philosophy |

|---|---|---|

| **Division 1** | **50%** | Sustains global competitiveness and high wages. |

| **Division 2** | **25%** | Ensures a robust "waiting room" for the elite. |

| **Division 3** | **15%** | Prevents the "cliff edge" of the modern League One. |

| **Division 4** | **10%** | Guarantees professional sustainability for small towns. |

### The "Gate-Share" Rule

Reintroducing the pre-1983 mandate:

 * **Home teams must share 20% of net gate receipts** with the visiting team for every league match.

 * **Result:** A small club drawing a "big" club in the league (or vice versa) receives a massive financial windfall, incentivizing lower-league clubs to maintain larger stadiums.

## 3. FA Cup: The "Pure Knockout" Restoration

The FA Cup reverts to its most romantic, unpredictable format. No "Big Six" protection.

 * **Replays are Mandatory:** If a match is drawn at 90 minutes, a replay is held at the away team’s ground. If the replay is drawn, a second replay is held at a neutral venue (repeating until a winner is found).

 * **No Seedings:** All professional teams enter earlier. Division 1 and 2 teams enter in the **Third Round**, but are not protected from drawing each other.

 * **The 50/50 Gate Split:** In the spirit of the old rules, all gate receipts for FA Cup matches (after expenses) are split **50/50** between the two clubs, regardless of who is home or away.

 * **Neutral Semi-Finals:** Semi-finals are played at traditional neutral grounds (e.g., Villa Park, Old Trafford, Hillsborough), not Wembley. **Wembley is reserved for the Final only.**

## 4. League Cup: The "Milk Cup" Format

To differentiate it from the FA Cup, the League Cup focuses on home-and-away aggregate battles.

 * **Two-Legged Rounds:** Rounds 2, 3, and 4 are played over two legs (home and away).

 * **No Penalty Shootouts (Early):** If aggregate scores are level after two legs, a replay is held.

 * **European Incentive:** The winner is guaranteed a spot in the primary European secondary competition (Europa League), elevating the cup's status.

 * **Revenue:** 10% of all League Cup TV revenue is diverted specifically into a "Hardship Fund" for any club in the bottom two divisions facing winding-up orders.

## 5. Summary of Impact

| Metric | Current System | The "Blueprint" Model |

|---|---|---|

| **Wealth Gap** | Multi-billionaire vs. Semi-pro | Wealthy vs. Healthy |

| **Relegation** | Potential financial ruin | Managed transition (smaller drop) |

| **Fixture Focus** | Premier League priority | Tournament and Pyramid priority |

| **Fan Cost** | High (to fund TV-heavy model) | Subsidized by shared gate revenue |

This model ends the "closed shop" era. While the top clubs would have less money for astronomical transfer fees, the English game would become the most financially stable and competitive sports ecosystem in the world.

Nufc new stadium- stay or go?

I dont just want NUFC to have the best team in the world. Like our chairman I want us to be number one for everything. Best team, best stadium, best academy, best training ground. People might say I'm deluded but so what. Before I go into detail on my thoughts on whether NUFC should stay or move from St James’ I have to stress that my preference is to stay on the current site. And keep the name St James too. History and tradition is important and no club in the country has a ground in as good a location. A new stadium outside of the city is unthinkable. I first went to St James in 1990. It was a very different place. No roof on the Gallowgate. The Leazes end, the traditional home end was an embarrassment having been ripped down a decade earlier. I wont mention the bogs. When I first started going the crowds were poor - understandably. we were awful. But what about the atmosphere? I remember my first match versus Plymouth, 25k there and it was amazing. I was hooked. As one of the 10...

Going to the pub

Ryton Village and Crawcrook When I first started drinking (at an age a little younger than legally allowed) if we were not going into Newcastle, the local pubs of Ryton and Crawcrook were where we would go. There was a set route that we would  follow starting in the Half Moon in Ryton village before heading along to Crawcrook where we would catch last orders in the Lambs Arms. We took up this route again a few years later when we had all moved back from University. The Half Moon 7 o clock every Friday this was the meeting point. There are (were?) three main rooms to the Half moon, a bar for "older" folk, a pool room and a bar for younger folk. (When we used to meet up we were still classed as younger folk but not anymore), we  had never arranged anything by phone or text (no such thing) it was a case of just turning up at 7 and finding out who was out that night, there was always someone you would know there if the usual group wasn't out. I can't remember th...
